about

‘big brooding alt pop/rock for your ex lover to cry to’
“This isn’t a love song, it’s not about falling in love, it’s about lust, it’s about the painful moments when the distance between you feels so far. It’s screaming into the night hoping someone will hear you, it’s the battles as a young girl fighting against your sexuality, it’s full of fear and need” - Martha Phillips songwriting and vocalist.
One of the first songs written by the band back in 2014, this song is a fan favourite at their live shows. For three years Martha would end every gig with ‘Heroine’ belting out the final note, using every last ounce of energy and passion to close the show on a spine tingling moment.
This highly anticipated single holds an incredibly special place in the hearts of their fans, the band, their families and wider team. This release is for the day ones.
“A song of this magnitude needed the right recording settings and it wasn’t until we met Dan Cox (Producer at Urchin Studios) that we knew we had met the right person to capture the raw energy of the live performance” - Tom Palmer Drummer
As a band that identify as Queer and advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, this song is poignant;
“One reviewer said it’s like the soundtrack to the LGBTQ Romeo & Juliet - which is fair, but to be honest every LGBTQ relationship feels like you are in a Baz Lurhman movie at some point - so I guess ‘Heroine’ is for all those star-crossed lovers fighting to survive and be together!”

lyrics

Don’t you ever think that we’re on a roll You’re the drug that I can’t control
I need you coursing through my veins Just to get me through the day
I told myself that I could cope
But I was wrong, at the end of m rope
I can’t let you go and I can’t pull you back Circles and motions, is this where we’re at?
You are my heroine You are my heroine
You speak a different language that pulses through my ears Words that haunt my body and silence all my fears
Pure subtleties and echos, keeping me awake
You’re my ghost inhabitance, pushing past the fake
You are my heroine, my veins are blue You are my heroine, I need you
Remember me when you’re gone I need you
Save me a seat, save me a pillow, save me the right side of your bed One day we’ll be, we’ll be together, or together we’ll be dead
Save me a seat, save me a pillow, save me the right side of your bed One day we’ll be, we’ll be together, or together we’ll be dead
You are my heroine, my veins are blue You are my heroine, I need you
You are my heroine, my veins are blue You are my heroine, I need you
